The spectacular 80km route (1300 m of elevation) is a ride of 2 worlds. The first half will be on the escarpment of Bergkraal on some splendid new trails through wheat fields, fynbos and scenic arid landscapes. On this section of the trail riders may be rewarded with a range of wildlife spottings. After a fast and exhilarating descend into Trawal wine cellar, riders will enjoy a wonderful waterpoint IN the wine cellar. This is also spectator point 1. Here supporters can enjoy a lovely wine tasting. (Those riders not in a rush are welcome to do the same)
Directly after Trawal cellar, the backside of Remhoogte hill awaits, which is the easier approach to this climb. Hereafter the second halve of the route will descend into the Olifants River valley for a second refreshment station at the beautiful Idma@Kapel venue (spectator point 2), after hugging the banks of the Olifants River. At Idma@Kapel, spectators can enjoy a lovely meal and refreshments.
From here on riders will have a comfortable ride towards the pinnacle of the route, up Skaapkop hill, roughly 10 km’s from the end. Riders will enjoy some breath-taking views of the valley underneath. Be sure to pack a cell phone, this is selfie heaven! The descend down Skaapkop is sure to get your heartbeat rushing.
The 3rd spectator point is at Teubes Family Wines, roughly 2 km’s from the end. Yes, only 2 km’s from the end, because there’s a very special surprise awaiting riders which simply had to be included. Riders will finish by RIDING THROUGH a WINE CELLAR. Riders finish at Die Keldery restaurant at Spruitdrift wine cellar.
This is an untimed, non-technical route, but a moderate level of fitness and experience is advised. This event was carefully planned to maximise rider AND supporter experience. Supporters can spend comfortable time at each of the spectator points and still meet riders when finishing. Spectator points are easily accessible.
